Homemade Chutney from Ladle & Larder

One of my favourite parts of Christmas is tucking into delicious and festive foods that we all love to indulge in at this time of the year and what I look forward to the most after my turkey dinner is enjoying a supper of cheese and biscuits, accompanied with grapes and a sweet, fruity chutney. So when Carrie at Ladle & Larder sent me one of her gorgeous chutneys to try, I couldn’t wait to team it with my cheese and biscuits, for a pre-Christmas supper.

Ladle & Larder is a small independent business owned by Carrie and is based in London. All Carrie’s chutneys are lovingly homemade and come in seven mouth-watering and unique flavours, from Scotch Bonnet Chilli and Onion Bhaji to Apple & Ginger and Christmas chutney. I chose to try the Rhubarb & Ginger flavour, as I thought the crystallised and root ginger paired with the rhubarb sounded absolutely delicious.

I love the way the chutney is beautifully presented. The label has a fabulous contemporary feel to it and the design is instantly recognisable. The different coloured banner at the base of each jar is a great idea too, as it distinguishes one flavour from the next.

As soon as I removed the lid, the sweet, gingery aroma escaped from the jar, tantalising my taste buds putting all my senses on red alert. The dark, rich colour and velvety texture looked amazing and I could practically hear the chutney calling out to my cheese and biscuits. The consistency of the chutney suited my own personal preference perfectly, as it wasn’t too chunky for me but still had the desired effect.

The taste, I have to say, was to die for. The sweet and fruity flavour teamed with a powerful kick of ginger was an ideal combination, especially for me, as I’m a huge ginger lover. I used vintage cheddar cheese to accompany my chutney, a recommendation from Carrie and they went together perfectly.

This chutney, in my opinion, is one of the nicest and enjoyable chutneys I have ever tasted and I’m now eager to try out the other fabulous flavours. If you’re thinking about putting together a Christmas hamper as a gift for someone or you’re looking for a little something extra to add to your favourite dish or meal, definitely give this little beauty a try, I can’t recommend it enough.
