I started this blog last July and I have to say, I have loved every minute of it. It has been such a fantastic, wonderful and interesting thing to do and I love that this is my little place where I can write all my thoughts and musings down. I have wanted to do this for sometime now, as I have always loved expressing myself through words, from attending creative writing classes at my local night school to being a features writer for an online magazine. So with this in mind, I decided to look into the world of blogging and after doing a bit (okay a lot) of research (all online as I didn’t personally know any other bloggers) I decided to take the plunge and go for it.
Prior to this blog, I had a book reviews blog, which I certainly enjoyed having, however I constantly felt under pressure to read and review books as quickly as possible, resulting in me almost losing interest in reading altogether! Once I started to feel like this, I knew it was time to step away from that particular blog, as I definitely didn’t want to lose my love of reading (that would not have been good for me at all) and so I decided to immerse myself in a different kind of blog, where I could express myself on a range of subjects and not be tied down to one particular topic.
When I had my book reviews blog I used the Blogger platform and even though it was a free site, which does have its benefits, I personally wouldn’t use it again, as I felt it didn’t offer enough scope for me. Currently, I have a self-hosted WordPress site and although I now pay to have that ( you can obviously use the free WordPress site instead if that’s what you prefer) I feel for me, WordPress has opened up many other avenues with a lot more options, making my whole blogging experience a much better one. Again, that’s my own personal choice, but if you are thinking about starting your own blog, definitely consider all options, so you can choose the right platform for you.
What I also love about blogging is the many ‘friends’ you meet along the way. It’s great to be able to have an online chat with somebody that has similar interests to you and understands that there is a great deal of hard work that goes into blogging. With this particular blog, I have connected with so many different people, some from travel backgrounds, some from foodie backgrounds and others from general lifestyle backgrounds and it has been a really great experience. Most people I have ‘met’ have been really supportive and for me that’s a huge positive factor when being a blogger, especially if you are just starting out. I have had my blog for a mere seven months now, which is nothing compared to the more experienced bloggers out there, but I still and always will feel extremely grateful whenever anyone takes the time to ‘like’ ‘share’ or make a comment on my blog, for me that is what makes it all worthwhile and I will always try and return the compliment or favour, so a huge thank you to everyone that has supported me on this relatively short blogging journey of mine.
Where do I see my blog heading in the future? Well, eventually, I would like to see it become the best it can be, whether that be making it good enough for people to follow or by working with many more brands in the future, I will always strive to do it justice, until then, I am most definitely enjoying the blogging ride and long may it continue.
