Fit Bakes is a company based in the heart of the Cotswolds, producing low calorie, healthy, free from treats. Avoiding refined flour, sugar and butter, their recipes are based on fruits, oats, coconut oil, almond milk, nuts and other healthy ingredients, so in the words of Fit Bakes themselves ‘you don’t need to sacrifice taste to keep fit!’
As a rule, it’s not very often I will opt for a healthier alternative of my favourite treat, so when Ella from Fit Bakes sent me some of her lovely low calorie goodies to try, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice they tasted. I was sent seven different varieties of treats: apple cinnamon fibre cakes, skinny brownies, wholemeal carrot cakes, blueberry superfood muffins, protein banana bites, dark chocolate chip drops and whey protein stars. There were four to five individual pieces in each pot, with the amount of calories stated clearly on the front. I thought this was an excellent idea, as all the contents have been weighed out first, making it easier to keep a track of calorie intake.
The packaging is super cute and with the pots being a clear plastic, you can see exactly what you’re getting. I also love the fact that because the containers are relatively small, they can easily be packed for lunches or be taken on picnics, avoiding the search for low calorie food. The pink and brown cupcake logo is appealing too and first impressions most definitely count.
There was a varied selection of tastes and flavours and so no matter what your preference in treats are, there is certainly something to suit most people’s tastes. One thing I will say though, is that for people with a sweeter tooth, I feel you would probably notice a lack of sugar. This may or may not be a good thing, depending on own personal tastes. My own personal favourites were the wholemeal carrot cakes with tiny dollops of cream cheese and the chocolate brownies with sweet potato and dates. I found these two varieties of treats to be the most moist and the most flavoursome.
These miniature muffins would be ideal if dieting or just watching your calorie intake, as you still get to enjoy a yummy treat, but without all the unhealthy ingredients thrown in.
